I have time on my hands....something I didn't have for over twenty years. I always said I would make time for the things that would give me joy, tap the creative side,or just for the sense of completion.
So here I am,
The Corporate rat race decided I wasn't needed anymore... don't worry this is not a plea for a pity party. I decided it was a relief that I wasn't going to give to myself willingly, so in a way it was a blessing in disguise. Yep I am one of those unemployed. There I said it. So I panicked, I raged, felt sorry for myself and then......... I laughed.
The reason? I finally found out that I am OK as a person without the titles, the accolades, and the dreaded blackberry.
So as I pursue looking for a new career, I am also embarking on the passion that I have always thought I would make time for - giving something that has served its purpose a new life. Little did I know I would be including myself in that.
Which brings me to the reason for the title of this blog, Restore, Renew, Reuse, the love of changing a worn object into a beautiful article that can be in a front and center existence again.
So there is a weave of reasons for this blog, hopefully we can all explore this together
Heck if you can eat, pray, love in this day and age you certainly can restore, renew, and reuse!
I hope you will join me in the journey, have fun along the way, share you stories and own accomplishments. I look forward to getting to know you all......
With excitement,
Syfara
Lets Get Started!!........Really?
So here it is...... my first adventure .. the workroom.
I have been doing my renewals in the living room, the kitchen and whatever-room to keep out of the heat this summer. Bet you know what that got me? Threads, and staples, and glue oh my! All over the place.
I know! I will use what is referred to as the "Back Room" at my house, a wide rectangular open space, waiting for creativity to abound. Streaming with sunlight, where friends and family will visit and sip ice tea while looking at the latest fabric finds. I opened the door with hundreds of ideas just waiting inside my head......then reality smacked me right upside my head........

There is the land of misbegotten things in my house. It is in a room filled with "I will fix it up, it is good for something, I like it, it might be worth something one day." OK, 'fess up you all know what I am talking about. Here is where trends go to pass like the Iron, Bronze, and Stone Age. Except I have the Tuscany, Rustic, and Retro Eras. Somewhere in there is a stunning room, all shiny and Marthastewartry One can only hope.......
Yep, that's a treadmill in there. It was re-purposed as a hold-the-rugs-in place rack thingy. Now the bright side, if I want to go Thrift store shopping, Poof I'm right there, think of the gas savings! Didn't Oprah do a special on this type of behavior? There is a Jack o Lantern in the corner just grinning at me, as if to say " I have been living like this since last October, welcome to my world!" Sigh.
Some day soon it will look like this room ...... or something similar, or kinda close to ... or maybe if I close one eye.... hey I can dream can't I ?Down at the end of Lonely Street......At Heartbreak Hotel
As you can see by my profile I live in Florida just north of Orlando and the happiest place on earth. There is also more hotel/motels here then anywhere on earth too.
So here is a quiz for you. Close your eyes and picture walking into a motel room- there is the standard two queens, the TV cabinet, a desk , and in the far corner right by the A/C unit is a table with two chairs. So guess what the thrift stores here are filled with... Chairs from hotel remodels! I picked up four the other day with ripped stripped fabric @ $12.50 a chair and striped them down to the bare naked. Used grays, browns and umber to get a zinc like affect to the wood. This is the work in progress:
Before After
So this is where I will end for the first part of the beginning........................
